Zeus-Ammon is a synchronization of Zeus with the major Egyptian God Amun, who was the King of The Gods in the Egyptian religion. Amun is a word that comes from Ancient Egyptian and refers to an important deity in Egyptian mythology. Also known as Amun-Ra or Amun-Re, he was considered the “King of the gods” and a central figure in the Egyptian pantheon during the New Kingdom.
The word “Amun” itself has a meaning related to concealment, suggesting a mysterious or hidden aspect of divinity. He was primarily associated with the sun and revered as a creator and protector figure. The importance of Amun is reflected in the fact that he was merged with the solar god Ra in the form of Amun-Ra, which became one of the principal deities of ancient Egypt.
Greek occupation of Egypt saw many synchronizations of Greek and Egyptian gods, with Zeus-Ammon being one of the principal deities synchronized. It is quite easy to see that synchronization of Zeus and Amun was inevitable, especially since Zeus (like Amun for Egypt), was the King of the Gods in Greece and also since Alexander the Great was pronounced Son of Amun in Egypt by the oracle at Siwa.
Alexander also often referred to Zeus-Ammon as his father. This phenomenal statue is a creation by one of our sculptors using descriptions from ancient texts and the existing bust to create the kingly Father of the Gods Zeus-Ammon. He stands regally with the body of Zeus and the ram horns and ears of Ammon, holding his scepter of divine kingly power.
