Triton is recognized in Greek mythology as a divine figure associated with the ocean, born to Poseidon and Amphitrite, who are revered as the god and goddess of the sea, respectively. Triton is among the numerous offspring of Poseidon. Typically depicted as a merman, he possesses the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish. However, artists often portrayed sea deities in various forms, including as sea centaurs or Ichthyocentaurs, which combine human features (head and torso) with horse legs and a fish tail.
