The Graces, also referred to as the Charites, embody various attributes including beauty, charm, grace, nature, fertility, goodwill, and human creativity. Born to Zeus and Eurynome, Hesiod mentions three of them by name: Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia. Aglaea signifies “radiance or beauty,” Euphrosyne embodies “joy,” and Thalia represents “bloom.” Known for symbolizing youth, beauty, elegance, and mirth, the Graces were designed to bring goodwill and joy to the world. Additionally, they personify charitable acts such as reciprocity, generosity, and gift-giving.
