Sol Invictus (“Unconquered Sun”) on a Roman frieze – 3D MODEL

The Frieze of the Invincible Sun, also known as Sol Invictus, at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, originates from the 3rd century. This monumental artwork adorned the walls of the Caldarium, or hot bath, within the baths. It features depictions of the Invincible Sun (Helios) alongside Jupiter Dolichenus or an imperial protective deity. Additionally, Luna (Selene) is portrayed with a crescent in her hair, a symbol associated with the cult of the Invincible Sun. Unfortunately, due to deterioration and looting over the centuries, only fragments of the frieze have survived. Nevertheless, these remnants offer a captivating insight into the art and religion of imperial Rome.
