Plato (c. 428-347 B.C.) emerges as a seminal figure in ancient Greek philosophy and literature hailing from Athens, revered as a foundational luminary in Western philosophical thought. Credited with the invention of written dialogue and dialectic forms, his corpus of 36 surviving dialogues, structured in dialogue format, prominently feature Socrates as a character in all but one.As a disciple of Socrates and the mentor of Aristotle, Plato’s philosophical journey was enriched by the influences of Heraclitus, Parmenides, and the Pythagoreans.
