The statue depicts the Muse Thalia. It’s a Roman piece from the 2nd century BC, discovered at Emperor Hadrian’s Villa outside Rome, which in turn was a Greek copy from the 3rd century BC. “Thalia” means “the blossoming.” She is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne (the memory) and is the muse of the light genre of comedy, poetry, and songs. Museums have dubbed the phenomenon “Museum.”
