This is our second version of Mithras slaying the cosmic bull, and is a replica of a statuette found in the Saalburg Roman Fort, Limes Germanicus, Germania. In this set Mithras is accompanied by the torch-bearers Cautes and Cautopates, who represent the stations of sunrise (Cautes with raised torch) and sunset( Cautopates with lowered torch). They also represent the spring and autumn equinoxes, day and night, life and death, etc. These striking statues are reconstructed replicas of the limestone statues on display in the Great North Museum in Newcastle, of which there is a photo of them above. They come as a set.
