The statue of Kybele or Cybele Formiae is a marble work dating back approximately to 60 BCE, from the Roman era, and is currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy. This representation of the Anatolian mother goddess Kybele is a prominent piece of Roman art iconography.
The sculpture depicts Kybele on a throne, wearing a turreted crown, symbolizing her association with city protection, and flanked by lions, sacred animals associated with the goddess. This representation reflects her role as a protector and her power as a deity and mother of the gods.
During the restoration process of the artifact, the nose, which had been the subject of a Christian exorcism, was restored, as well as the arm, which had been mutilated. Additionally, the lions, which flank Kybele on the throne, were added back to restore the integrity and beauty of the Kybele Formiae statue.
