The statue of Kybele, also known as Kybele Formiae, is a marble masterpiece dating back to approximately 60 BCE, from the Roman era. It is currently showcased at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy. This depiction of the Anatolian mother goddess Kybele holds significant prominence in Roman art iconography. The sculpture portrays Kybele seated on a throne, adorned with a turreted crown symbolizing her connection with city protection, and accompanied by lions, revered animals linked with the goddess. This portrayal captures her role as a guardian and her divine authority as a mother of the gods. During the restoration conducted by one of the sculptors from Hephaisteion, the nose, previously subjected to a Christian exorcism, was meticulously reconstructed, alongside the restoration of a mutilated arm. Furthermore, the lions flanking Kybele on the throne were reintegrated to preserve the integrity and magnificence of the Kybele Formiae statue.
