The statue of Dionysus & Eros, housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, is a marble sculpture from the 2nd century BCE portraying the Greek god Dionysus alongside the winged love-god Eros. Dionysus, depicted as a youthful figure with flowing hair, is shown holding a goblet of wine and a cluster of grapes, while resting his arm on Eros’ shoulder.
Dionysus is revered as the Olympian deity of wine, fertility, revelry, pleasure, ecstasy, and wild abandon, whereas Eros represents love and passion. One of our sculptors from the Hephaisteion workshop has meticulously repaired the cracks in the statues and restored Eros’ bow and arrow, thus fully reinstating all the symbolism of this magnificent sculpture.
