This is the painted version of our snake column sculpture. It is a partial replica of the serpent column and tripod at the Sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi. It was dedicated to Apollo to commemorate the Greeks who fought and won the battle of Plataea against the Persians. The 3 snakes represent the PanHellenic unity of the Greek people against the Persians and adversity, with the 31 coils representing the 31 united Greek cities. If the Greeks had not won, Rome would not have been the superpower that we know today. This is a partial replica because only 18 coils are on this piece, due to our trying to make it more scaled to be used at the altar, Lararium, or sacred space, as well as bookshelf or display. We ship it in 3 pieces (column, square base, and tripod), and the tripod sits on the top of the snakes. The tripod is for decoration only, and cannot be used as an actual burner. However, tiny tripod burners made for incense can be used, as well as glass tealight candle holders and placed on top of the snakes. As always, please monitor any candle burning or incense use according to safety guidelines. The entire piece stands 55.5 centimeters tall, 43.5 centimeters when standing on the square base without the tripod , and 40 centimeters without the square base and tripod. A beautiful piece for any altar, bookshelf or sacred space.
All our designs are high quality printing, environmentally friendly materials. Perfect finishes, very careful.
