The Colossal Statue of Helios, dedicated in a temple of Serapis in Lykopolis during the reign of Antoninus Pius (138-161 CE), is an impressive marble sculpture currently on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin. The figure of Helios rises majestically in the center of a museum hall, with an imposing and secure posture. His right hand holds a scroll, symbolizing knowledge and wisdom, while His left hand, which has been lost, has been skillfully reconstructed, holding the globe of the world. This gesture represents the dominion and influence of the sun God over the universe. The sculpture captures the grace and strength of Helios, according to the tradition of ancient cultures, with His muscular and well-defined torso. The long tunic He wears falls covering his bare chest and then flows elegantly down His left arm, falling behind His feet. His face reflects a serene and powerful expression, with well-defined features and a penetrating gaze that seems to look towards the horizon, watching the passage of day and night, as Helios knows and sees everything.
