The birth of Mithras, the Persian sun god, is commemorated on December 25th. Legend holds that Mithras emerged from a rock near a river, beneath a tree, donning a Phrygian cap and bearing a knife. Alternative narratives describe his birth from an egg, with the top half of the shell enveloping his head, surrounded by a zodiac symbolizing an egg shape.
