In Greek mythology, Aristaeus was born to Apollo and the nymph Cyrene. This sculpture depicts him as a nude figure standing, adorned with a floral crown, and leaning on a tree trunk. Bosio’s creation draws from classical Greek artistry and life studies, capturing the virility of the nude form.
The intricate detailing of musculature in marble conveys both strength and flexibility. Despite the serene physicality, Aristaeus’ expression carries a sense of melancholy, reflecting his grief over the unintended death of the nymph Eurydice during his pursuit of her.
