This bust depicts the poet Anacreon (570-485 BCE), based on similarities with the portrait type typically linked to him during that period. For instance, there is a portrait in the Musei Capitolini in Rome with an inscription bearing his name. The head, featuring a band ending in two vittae on the figure’s shoulders, is likely the portrait of a poet. The stylized representation of the hair and beard suggests that this work is a copy of a bronze original, likely from the mid-5th century BCE.
