Hypnos, a figure from Greek mythology embodying sleep, played a significant role in the outcome of the Trojan War, allegedly lulling Zeus into slumber in exchange for marriage to Pasithea, one of the Graces. This remarkable bust, crafted in original Greek bronze, depicts Hypnos with a distinctive second wing extending from the left side of his head. Notably, Hypnos appears to have been a popular motif in the western Mediterranean, with numerous heads and figures discovered in Spain, France, and Italy. Typically depicted as a youthful figure in motion, adorned with winged headgear and tied-back hair, this surviving example captures only the head of Hypnos.
